30th May: The Zeitgeist of Knowledge, Communication, Time and Leadership

'A nation which can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one.' – Alexander Hamilton

The Swakopmund Toastmasters club has never been one to shy away from a challenge. On 30th May, with 18 visitors in attendance, it was nearly a standing room only event, however, thanks to quick-thinking and logistical skills employed the abundance of visitors were all accommodated.

Mr Joel Iyambo served as the evening’s Toastmaster with both dignity and grace, keeping with the natural flow and rhythm that adds such value to a Toastmasters meeting.

We were blessed with a visit from President Michael Chikwililwa from Seagulls Toastmasters in Windhoek who served as General Evaluator for the evening. Mr Chikwililwa lauded the club’s organizational skill and excellent evaluations attesting to the excellency for which the club strives.

Speeches proceeded with Mr Gavin Chisambo first espousing that when you don’t know what you don’t know then what you don’t know could hurt you.

The second speech by Mr Penny du Toit was on the importance of communication in business. Mr du Toit reached his 10th speech earning him the Competent Communicator rank.

Thirdly was Mr Brandt van der Westhuizen who wasted no time in telling everyone not to waste time. This was also Mr van der Westhuizen's final step towards the rank of Competent Comunicator.

The final speech for the evening was done by Miss Pam Miller who educated the audience on effective leadership by working efficiently in teams.

As a final slice of indulgence for enjoyment the Table Topics Master, Mr Brandt van der Westhuizen, had members and guests explain how they would rule the world while employed as either receptionists, mechanics or even kindergarden teachers.

The meeting concluded with a word from President Edna Botha who reiterated the fact that Swakopmund Toastmasters never give in and never give up.

The Next Meeting will be on 06 June.
